Hydrocolloid Dressing with Border consists of elastic absorbent adhesive hydrocolloid covered with semi permeable polyurethane film backing on one side. The side which is covered with PU film is not adhesive while the other side which is not covered, is adhesive. The hydrocolloid in this dressing is made of carboxy-methylcellulose (CMC) as the principal absorbent and gel forming agent mixed with pressure-sensitive medical adhesives. Hydrocolloid dressing is permeable to water vapor but impermeable to exudate and microorganisms, serving as a barrier against harmful microorganisms and other contaminants. In the presence of exudate, the CMC absorbs liquid and swells to form a cohesive gel that does not disintegrate or leave residues in the wound bed. This gel may help with autolytic debridement, and as a result, one may see an enlarged wound area at the beginning of the therapy as the dead tissue is removed from the wound site.
